Keeping Your Phone Cozy

I'm not sure how often you drop your phone -- or if you lose it in the deep recesses of your bag. But add a cozy, and you get a little cushion, plus the texture should be easier to find by feel. (You get the added bonus of coordinating in your favorite colors, too!). I'd probably add a button and a loop to mine. What embellishments would you use?

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

Lion Brand® Vanna’s Choice® Baby Yarn: 1 skein Goldfish (A), 1 skein Aqua (D), or colors of choice
Lion Brand® Vanna’s Choice® Yarn: 3 skeins Black (B), 1 skein Honey (C), 1 skein Beige (E), 1 skein Mustard (F), or colors of choice
Crochet hook, size H-8
Large-eyed blunt needle

DIRECTIONS:
GAUGE:
Exact gauge is not essential to this project.

NOTES
1. To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops to complete st. Fasten off old color.
2. To make finishing easier, work over ends of old colors as work progresses, or weave in ends as work progresses.

Work 2 rows with A, 1 row with B, 1 row with C, 2 rows with B, 1 row with D, 2 rows with C, 1 row with E, 2 rows with F, 1 row with A, 2 rows with B, 1 row with C, 1 row with F, 2 rows with E, 1 row with B, 1 row with A, 2 rows with D, 1 row with F, 1 row with C, 2 rows with A, 1 row with B, 1 row with C, 2 rows with D.

COZY:
With A, ch 14.
Row 1: Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc3tog, sc in each of next 2 ch, 3 sc in next ch, sc in each of next 2 ch, sc3tog, 2 sc in last ch – 13 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first st, sc3tog, sc in each of next 2 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts, sc3tog, 2 sc in last st – 13 sts.
Rep Row 2, following Stripe Sequence, until entire Stripe Sequence has been worked once.
Fasten off.

FINISHING:
Fold Cozy in half so that first row meets last row. Seam sides. Weave in ends.

Heart Paw Bandana

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

DecoArt® Americana® painting supplies:
Fabric Painting Medium Acrylic Paint: Snow White, Lavender, Razzle Berry
Paintbrushes: #12 flat, 3/0 liner
Pink bandana (or square of finished fabric)
Piece of cardboard
Heart stencil
Water container
Palette or plastic plate
Paper towels
Iron & ironing surface

DIRECTIONS:
Note: Allow coats of paint to dry between steps.

Wash and dry bandana; do not use fabric softener. Iron bandana to remove wrinkles.
Line work surface with piece of cardboard and place front half of bandana over cardboard. The back half should be tucked behind cardboard to eliminate possibility of paint seeping through to back side and onto work surface.
Mix DecoArt® Americana® Fabric Painting Medium with Razzle Berry paint according to directions on Fabric Painting Medium bottle. Use heart-shaped stencil and #12 flat brush to add hearts to random areas of bandana.
To turn some Razzle Berry hearts into heart paws, dip handle end of brush into Razzle Berry. Using handle end like pen, draw in circular motion to add four “toes” above heart.
Repeat step 3 with other paint colors to add hearts in various places on bandana.
Use handle end of 3/0 liner brush to add polka dots along edge of bandana. Begin with one color and place dots about 1” apart. When finished, move to second color, adding new dot color after each first dot. Repeat for third color. Tip: Throughout this process, occasionally lift bandana so paint doesn’t stick to cardboard underneath. If it sticks, it can be cleaned off later.
Allow to dry and cure for 48 hours. Heat set according to directions on Fabric Painting Medium bottle. Wash, if desired, or to remove bits of cardboard left on bandana surface.

How to Make a Fabric Flower (Fit for a Princess!)

Ashley Weaver, a student at the Virginia Marti College of Art and Design shared how she made the cute flowers on the dress for Emma during a Make-A-Wish foundation event where eight girls were transformed into Disney princesses! (Follow Ashley on Twitter: @ashleydmupfash)

1. Things you'll need: fabric of choice, thread that matches, needle, scissors/pinking sheers, fabric marking tool, pins, anything circular(depends on size flower you want)

2. Make 16 circles/fold fabric and trace out 8. Pin each circle together.

3. Cut out each circle. (Or use pinking sheers for fun look).

4. Take 2 circles, find center and sew together.

5. Take 2 more circles, fold in half (like a taco) place flat folded sides side by side on top of pre sewn circles and sew together.

6. Repeat step 5 but lay opposite direction of previous 2 folded circles.

7. Take remaining 10 circles and fold into quarters (like a pie) and sew about halfway up open edge.

8. Then take 4 quarter pieces, lay flat on folded pieces and sew together

9. Take 4 more, repeat step 8, but place each piece between each piece laid before.

10. Take last 2 pieces, place one inside the other and sew on flower through the point to base.

11. Fluff up, place gems in the center, and you have your very own fabric flower.

Becoming a Disney Princess

If you could be a Disney Princess, who would you pick? Rapunzel or Ariel? Snow White or Tiana?

Tomorrow, we'll get the chance to share the magical transformation of eight girls into eight Disney Princesses with the help of Disney On Ice, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, Northeast Ohio Region.

The girls and their families will be invited to the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland for a morning filled with princess makeovers and complete with a surprise appearance by Cinderella.

As part of their princess makeover, the girls will receive custom-made dresses designed by fashion design students and graduates of the Virginia-Marti College of Art and Design (VMCAD) and inspired by the girls’ favorite Disney Princesses. “Our designers have been working for months on their designs and perfecting these dresses for the girls, making each dress unique to fit their individual styles. All of the girls inspire us each and every day, so designing these dresses is the least that we could do to make their day special,” said Lisa Marti, Director of Career Services at VMCAD.

All of the fabric used for the dresses was donated by Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores.

How to: Make a Tent & Slumber Party Bag

Slumber Bag Supplies & Tools:

2 yds of fabric for outside of bag
2 yds of fabric for inside of bag
5-ft Velcro® brand Fabric Fusion™
1¾ yd 1/2" thick bonded batting
Thread
Sewing machine
Iron and ironing surface

Directions (click here for joann.com version):

Cutting:

Fabric – 60"x44"
Velcro® brand Fabric Fusion™ – three 3"x WOF
Lining – 60"x44"
Batting – 60"x44"

Use 1/2" seam allowance. WOF = width of fabric. RS = right side(s). WS = wrong side(s).

For Velcro® brand Fabric Fusion™, sew the ends of 3"xWOF together into one long piece.
From this, cut 2 pieces 21" long and 2 pieces 44" long.
With RS together, fold the ends of each piece, sew, then turn RS out and press into strips 1½" wide.
Follow manufacturer’s directions and adhere Velcro® brand Fabric Fusion™ to one side of each strip close to folded edge.
Beginning 1" from each bottom corner with RS together, place Velcro® brand fastener strips along bottom and sides of bag fabric. Baste in place.
Baste batting to WS of bag.
With RS together, sew bag and lining around all edges, leaving an opening in top edge for turning.
Trim batting close to stitching.
Clip corners and turn RS out.
Slip stitch opening closed.
On inside, mark center of bag from top to bottom, then stitch along marked line.

A-Frame Tent Supplies & Tools:

3 yds of fabric for tent
3 yds of fabric for lining
Decorative curtain rod
Thread
Sewing machine

Square cut ends of 3 yd lengths of fabric and lining.
Lay fabric and lining RS together and trim salvages as needed to make both pieces even.
Sew around all edges, leaving an opening in bottom edge for turning.
Clip corners and turn RS out.
Press and slip stitch opening closed.
Edge stitch all around.
Suspend curtain rod approximately 4-ft from the floor with rope & hooks and drape tent over rod.

Resolutions

Resolution: "...determination; the act of resolving or determining upon an action or course of action, method, procedure, etc." (Dictionary.com)

I usually don't make a hard and fast resolution. I've never committed to weight loss or exercise, to stop watching television, or to read one book per week. My resolutions are more nebulous -- "make sure to exercise, eat healthy, and try to read more." Maybe it's the definition of a resolution that makes it so difficult. It sounds so formal, so absolute.

But here's a resolution I can stand behind: to keep learning & complete one craft project per month. Yes, it's still a bit nebulous. But for me I need that creative buffer -- the space to brainstorm without restriction. I'm curious to see what comes from a bit of determination.

2 yds brown dot (or coordinating fabric)
1/2 yd brown floral print
1 yd green diamond print
1/2 yd stripe
1/2 yd dark pink floral
1/2 yd light pink floral
1/2 yd pink dot
1/2 yd brown leaf print

3 1⁄2 yds backing fabric
51"x60" piece quilt batting
Thread
Sewing machine
Iron, ironing surface
Scissors
Pencil and ruler
Basic sewing supplies
Optional: rotary cutter, mat and ruler

DIRECTIONS (printable .pdf):

1. From brown dot, cut seven 3 1⁄8"x60" strips centered over a row of dots.

2. From each remaining fabric, cut five 2" wide crosswise strips.

3. From green diamond print, cut five 2 3⁄4" binding strips.

4. Arrange the crosswise strips following the diagrams for pattern placement and stitch the strips together in that order, following directions in step 5 below. Sew two sets of strips (A) and one set of strips(B & C).

5. Carefully pin, then sew the strips together, right sides facing, using 1/4" seam allowance.

To keep strip-pieced unit totally flat, sew the strips together as follows:

Sew strip 1 to strip 2.

Sew strip 3 to the other long edge of strip 2.

Sew strips 5 and 7 to strip 6 in the same manner.

Sew remaining edge of 3 to one edge of strip 4.

Press seam in one direction.

Sew strip 5 to the other long edge of strip 4.

Press all seams in one direction.

6. Cut each set of strips into 5 1 ⁄2"-wide pieces.

7. Arrange pieces into 6 rows with 5 sections in each row following the strip placement guide. Some sections are turned upside down.

8. Place brown dot strips between rows. Look at the rows to see if there are colors that line up across the quilt.

9. From remaining crosswise strips, cut 5 1⁄2" pieces. Add 3 or more single strips to each row at the top, bottom or between sections to break any repetition in the strip-pieced rows. There should be 37 pieces in each row.

10. Join the sections and the strips to complete each row. They should all be the same length.

11. Measure the rows and trim brown dot vertical strips to length.

12. Stitch a brown vertical strip to the right side of each strip-pieced section.

13. Stitch the remaining edge of the vertical strips to the next strip-pieced row.

14. Join the last vertical strip to the left edge of the quilt.

15. Layer, quilt and bind the edges.

How to: Make a Glitter Snowman Ornament

Glitter Snowman ornament
Supplies & Tools:

FolkArt® crafting supplies:
Extreme Glitter™, Hologram
Enamel: Licorice, Vivid Orange
Paintbrush
Hot glue gun & glue
Red felt
Glass ornaments, 1 large and 1 small
Scissors

Directions (find printable directions here):

Fill the ornaments with the Extreme Glitter™. Roll around until the insides are completely covered. Turn upside down to let excess come out.
Once dry, paint Licorice eyes, mouth and buttons. Paint a carrot with Vivid Orange for the nose.
Glue ornaments together with hot glue to make the snowman body.
Cut a 3/4"x12" piece of felt and tie around neck. Trim excess and cut fringe.

Christmas Tree Trio ornament
Supplies & tools:

Gallery Glass® crafting supplies: Window Color™: Kelly Green, Ruby Red, White Pearl Leading Blanks
Palette knife
Craft knife
Ruler
Glass ball ornament

Directions:

Using palette knife, spread window color onto leading blank and let dry at least twelve hours.
Clean glass ornament thoroughly before applying Window Color™.
With ruler and craft knife, cut strips of Ruby Red and White Pearl approximately 1/4".
Place one strip of Ruby Red around middle of ornament vertically. Starting at middle back, place another strip of Ruby Red and trim. Continue filling in alternating colors.
Place tree shapes under blank with Kelly Green and cut out. Place onto ornament front.
Create three small strips of red for trunks and place White Pearl dots onto trees directly from bottle.

Craft Essentials™ black ink pad
Hampton Art Rubber Stamps: large circle, thank you
Pastel lilac glitter
Le Plume II Pastel Markers
Stamp & Stick glue pad
Clever Lever Jumbo Craft Punch
Heat tool
Foam mount squares
Black gingham ribbon

DIRECTIONS:

Trim purple cardstock to create a 4 1⁄4"x5 1⁄2" folded card.
Using the glue pad, stamp large circle image in a vertical line onto the right side of the card. Use the heat tool to warm the glue circles; sprinkle circles with glitter. Lightly brush off excess glitter.
Using black ink, stamp “thank you” image onto white cardstock. Color in with markers as shown, then punch out with large circle punch. Adhere the circle to card with foam mount squares.
Tie gingham ribbon and adhere to card with foam mount squares.

Ottoman Stack Tutorial

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
• 1½ yd 45" home decor fabric
• 1½ yd fleece
• 3 lbs polyester fiberfill
• Basic sewing supplies
• Sewing machine

DIRECTIONS: Use 1/2" seam allowance. RS = Right side(s). WS = Wrong side(s).
CUTTING:
Home decor fabric: 21"x21" piece for the top
Two 21"x12" pieces for the bottom
Four 21"x15" pieces for the sides
Fleece: 21"x21" piece for the top
Two 21"x12" pieces for the bottom
Four 21"x15" pieces for the sides

ASSEMBLY:

Baste or pin each piece of fleece to WS of home decor fabric.
Sew short 15" sides of all side pieces together to form a large loop; leave 1/2" open at top & bottom of each seam.
Stitch sides to top.
Fold one long edge of one bottom piece 1"; stitch. Place this piece on the bottom; stitch. Add remaining bottom piece. It will overlap. Turn RS out.
Refer to photo. On RS of ottoman, topstitch seams 1/2" from top and bottom edges.
Stuff and hand stitch bottom opening.

How to Make: Christmas Tree Napkins

Supplies & Tools:

Cotton quilting fabrics, 1/2 yd each for 2 napkins: 1 light holiday print, 1 dark holiday print
Basic sewing supplies
Sewing machine
Iron & ironing surface
Poster board cut to 17" diameter circle
Fine-line permanent fabric marker

Directions (printable directions here):

With right sides together, pin light and dark quilting fabrics together. Use the poster board circle as a template and trace two circles on the back side of one of the fabrics. Cut the fabric in half to separate the circles.
Sew on the traced outline of each circle. Leave a small opening on each for turning. Trim the seam allowance to within 1/4" of the seam.
Turn inside out, press and stitch the opening closed.
Use the fine-line marker to write a favorite Christmas carol or other holiday-themed message around the outer edge of the light-colored side of each napkin.
Fold the napkin in half with a little of the darker fabric showing at the open end. Starting 5" from one end of the fold, fold back and forth four times making pie-shaped wedges that stack up large to small forming the tree shape.

Various cards with envelopes: red 5½" square, white 4¾"x6½", white 5¼"x7¾"

DIRECTIONS (find printable directions here):

Deer with Tree Card:

Cut 8" square of white linen.
Transfer provided design onto front of linen, centering on an angle.
Using four strands of red embroidery floss, stitch design with stem, outline or turkey stitch. Use a French knot for eye.
Trim linen to 4½"x4½".
Cut Red Snowflake Luster paper slightly smaller than red 5½" square card. Adhere to front of card.
Lay embroidered piece on top of paper and zigzag stitch on both sides. Cut a 1/2" strip of paper and add diagonally to upper right-hand corner of card. Zigzag across center of strip. Fold edges to inside of card and adhere in place.
Cut up old Christmas cards or computer generate greeting on cardstock. Size to fit lower left-hand bottom, stitch in place using a straight stitch.

Three Snowflakes Card:

Cut an 8" square of red aida cloth. Transfer snowflake designs onto cloth. Refer to photo for placement.
With basic straight stitch, embroider snowflakes using 4 strands of white floss.
Trim cloth to 3½"x5¾". Fray all edges.
Cut Oh What Fun paper slightly smaller than 4¾"x6½" card. Stitch to card along top, right side & bottom using large zigzag stitch. Lay embroidered piece along left side of card. Top and bottom will hang over card. Stitch all sides in place using straight stitch.
Cut apart several sizes of snowflakes from Flurry Lace Cardstock. Add to card as desired, stitch in place. Fold edges of snowflakes upward for added dimension.
Cut up old Christmas cards or computer generate greeting on cardstock. Stitch in place on card.

Cross-Stitch Snowflake Card:

Cut a 6" square of red aida cloth. Follow the provided pattern for cross-stitching the snowflake design. Use 4 strands over 2 threads. Trim cloth to within 4 threads of finished snowflake. Fray edges.
Cut Alpine Lace paper slightly smaller than 5¼"x7¾" card. Adhere to front.
Cut up old Christmas cards or computer generate greeting on cardstock to fit at bottom of card. Stitch in place using large zigzag along top and bottom of card and a straight stitch only at top edge of greeting.
Adhere cross-stitched piece at a diagonal to upper area of card. Using Color Infusions red memory thread, twist into a small flower or bow shape. Coil ends and adhere in place at center of design.

Optional: Add stitching, paper scraps or snowflakes to envelopes

French Door Shades Tutorial

Tie in your home decor with your french doors (or other room windows), with our French Door Shades tutorial. Select the fabric, and within an afternoon you can have beautiful shades from the inside out!

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
Length of fabric may vary depending on glass dimensions in door.
• 2 yds 45" home decor print Fabric A
• 2 yds 45" 45" home decor print Fabric B
• 2 yds 45" home decor solid Fabric C: for ties
• 1x1 wood board for top mounting: one for each door: cut 3" wider than glass
• 3/8" dowel: for bottom hem length of each door: cut 3" wider than glass
• Staple gun, staples
• Basic sewing supplies
• Sewing machine
• Iron, pressing surface

DIRECTIONS:
All seam allowances 1/2".
1. Measure glass opening in door. Add 4" to the width and length.
Fabrics A & B: Cut one each with the new dimension for each door.
The pictured door had a glass opening of 15"x67"; fabric was cut to 19"x71".
2. With RS together, sew both sides and bottom of each shade. Turn RS out and press. Sew top closed.
3. Turn bottom up 1½" toward the lining; topstitch to form a casing.
4. TIES: For each door cut four 4"xLOS pieces of Fabric C. Pictured ties were cut to 4"x71".
5. Fold each strap, RS together; sew along open length and one end. Turn RS out; press.
6. Staple top of shade to the 1x1; add two ties to the bottom & two ties on the top, 3" from each side.
Mount to door frame above glass.
7. Slide the dowel into the bottom casing.

How to Make: Halloween Ghosts (that glow!)

Grab the supplies at your local Jo-Ann, and then find out how you can make those ghosties glow with our Glowing Halloween Ghosts tutorial! Is it me, or are we really exciting about lighting up our decorations lately? :)

Supplies & Tools (printable directions here):

• 1 pkg Cheesecloth
• Battery-operated mini party lights
• Stiffy® fabric stiffener
• Black sticky-back felt
• 1 roll Untinted cellophane
• Monofilament line
• Balloons
• Cylindrical vase or pedestal
• Scotch® brand tape
• Scissors
• X-Acto® knife
• Hole punch
• Felt or craft foam scrap piece
• Tacky glue
• Non-stick cooking spray (optional)
• Ribbon or paper strip

Directions:
Note: Use 1/2" seam allowance for apron.
1. To create ghost shape, dip a square of cheesecloth into Stiffy® fabric stiffener then drape cheesecloth over an inflated balloon elevated on a cylindrical vase, or pedestal, placed on a protected surface. When dry, remove ghost by pricking balloon. Repeat process to create two ghosts, one smaller than the other, for nesting purposes.
Tips: Remove the cheesecloth from the form as soon as it is completely dry. A light coat of non-stick cooking
spray on the balloon and cylinder will make removing the shape easier.
2. Cut two 15" to 20" squares of cellophane. Find the center of each piece and reinforce with a Scotch®
tape “X.” Cut a small hole through the center of this with an X-Acto® knife. Set aside. Note: The cellophane enhances and diffuses the glow from the light.
3. Cut a 2" circle from felt or craft foam scrap to act as the ghost’s top anchor. Punch two holes in it, like a button, and set aside. Optional: A hook or clip clothespin would also work.

4. Cut two 1-yd pieces of monofilament line. On one, tie a mini party light at one end, through the loop. Cut
an 8"x8" square of cheesecloth and fold into fourths. Poke the line through the center of this and drape the
cheesecloth over the light; secure with the light’s rubber O-ring. Tie second line as a hanging “tail” to the line
above the light, which you will use for lowering the mini light and to turn it off and on. On the tail, tie a strip of cheesecloth, a length of ribbon, a strip of paper that says “Boo!” or any other object that you can locate easily, inside the ghost.
5. Next, build the ghost in layers: Thread the line (with light, cheesecloth, tail) through (a) the cellophane, (b) the smaller ghost, (c) the second cellophane, and (d) the larger ghost. Determine desired length and tie the line onto the felt or craft foam anchor.
6. For eyes, cut four circles from sticky-back felt and pair them up, paper sides together. At one time, punch the pupil holes in each set and trim the circle for an angry or worried look. Attach the inside eye first; peel off paper then reach under outer cheesecloth layer and position. Repeat for other inside eye. Apply glue over the eyes and attach the outer eyes, aligning the punched holes. Let dry.
7. To activate the light: Before hanging ghost, pull the tail down from center of ghost, twist bulb, then pull lit bulb back to head of ghost using the monofilament line. Hang ghost, as desired, from a branch, chandelier or
other object.

How to Make: A Light Up Treat Bag!

SUPPLIES & TOOLS (printable directions here):

Large ready-to-finish canvas tote
Simply Spray Soft Fabric Paint, 2 to 3 bottles
Celebration Lights, 4 pkgs
1/2 yd Black wool felt
1/2 yd Yellow organza
1 White felt square
Scribbles Glittering Silver Paint
Fabri-Tac glue
Chalk pencil
Scissors
9" Black Velcro
Velcro glue

DIRECTIONS:

Following manufacturer's directions, spray fabric paint onto canvas bag. Allow to dry thoroughly. More than one coat may be necessary to achieve desired look.
Scale up and cut out pattern (see PDF) for house and transfer markings to black felt with a chalk pencil.
Cut out house then cut out windows and three sides of door.
With the Scribbles paint, outline house and windows as desired. Allow to dry.
On wrong side of door, glue two pieces of organza -- making a double thickness -- to small window in door. Allow to dry, then trim away excess fabric.
Cut two pieces of organza large enough to cover entire house.
On wrong side of house, apply glue around all of the windows and door and glue both pieces of organza to house for double thickness, keeping door free to open. Allow glue to dry thoroughly then trim away any excess fabric.
Cut a piece of organza a little wider than each window and twice as long. Fold in half. With fold at the top, glue bottom and sides only to back of windows and door to make pockets for lights. Allow glue to dry thoroughly and trim away any excess fabric.
Cut out moon shape from white felt remnant and glue in place.
Glue sides and bottom of house to canvas bag allowing the roof eaves to extend over the sides.
Glue loop side of Velcro to house roof in three places and glue soft side of Velcro to bag.
Turn on Celebration Lights and drop into pockets behind windows. Secure top of house with Velcro.

Candy Corn Treat Bag (Made with Duct Tape!)

You've made sure every decoration is spooky, the costumes are almost made, now you can stash those sweet Halloween treats in the perfect candy corn bag! (Find printable directions here).

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

Brown paper grocery bag
Scissors
Duck brand duct tape, white, yellow, orange

DIRECTIONS:

Open your brown paper bag and cut down 1 vertical seam. Cut bottom off bag. Lay bag horizontally.
Use a 4" piece of duct tape to seal edge on 1 of the short sides of rectangle. Trim extra tape. Covering bag completely with duct tape will make it stronger.
Roll bag into one shape, duct tape side out. Roll cone tightly for smaller bag; for larger bag, roll cone loosely.
Secure inner seam of bag with strip of duct tape. Tape down outer seam using colored duct tape -- matching the colors as it is sealed. Trim a little bit off the top of bag to give it conic look.
Close bottom of bag by cutting small slits into end. Fold small edges onto each other & secure with small pieces of tape.
For handle, make double-sided duct tape strip to desired length. To make a double-sided strip cut 2 pieces of duct tape to length. Lay 1 strip, sticky side up, on work surface. Place second strip on top. sticky side down. Attach handle to inside of the bag using strips of duct tape.
Add a few strips of Reflective Tape for safety, then it is off through the neighborhood!

Can you tell me a little bit about yourself, and what craft you primarily work on?
Michael: I mainly do small wood working projects.

Camilla: I started sewing before I started to school. I watched my mother sewing, and she gave me a needle and thread when I was 5 years old. My first project was a doll dress. I've been sewing ever since.

I've experimented with various forms of needlework over the years. My favorites are sewing, machine knitting and machine embroidery.

Cara: I'm an only child, currently living at home. (Sharing the housework leaves more time for making things, you know.) Besides numerous crafts, including sewing and embellishing many of my own clothes and a good sized collection of bags and purses, I also enjoy reading, photography, graphic design, old movies and listening to music while I work on a project. I just recently took up weaving on a small vintage loom. When I was about 8 years old I got to try weaving and loved it. Then a few months ago I saw a project that rekindled the old fascination and just had to get a loom.

Usually I do more wire and bead jewelry than anything else, but right now I'm spending the most time weaving.

How did you start crafting together?
Michael: Working on fix-up projects around the home.

Cara: We've always been DIYer's, working on home improvement projects together, and since I was home-schooled, growing up I got to spend a lot of time crafting with Mom. Sometimes I'd sneak into our craft/sewing room and work on a project when I was supposed to be doing my schoolwork. The three of us get input from each other on colors, finishes, details and if we get stuck on a project.

Who taught you? Or did you each teach yourself?
Michael: I'm self-taught, for the most part.

Camilla: My mom taught me sewing. Machine knitting I learned through classes, books, workshops and on my own. The fabric boxes and bowls started with a book, and then I came up with some of my own patterns and favorite methods.

Cara: Mom taught me to sew. Some crafts, like wire jewelry and kumihimo, I got the basics with a kit and went from there learning on my own through books and experimenting. I also find the online groups for certain crafts very helpful at times.

Where do you find your inspiration? Who inspires you?
Michael: From magazines and the internet.

Camilla: Fabrics and embroidery designs, browsing through patterns and magazines and the internet, looking at and figuring out how a detail on someone's clothing was made, especially if it's used in a way that's new to me.

Cara: It can be anywhere. The materials I'm working with, a finished piece that a fellow crafter made, a color combination, an embroidery design, a picture in a book, a garment or piece of jewelry in a movie or advertisement or store or that a someone is wearing. Putting my own spin on a current trend or a classic. Seeing something I like and trying to figure out how to make it myself.

What are some of your favorite tools or materials?
Michael: The scroll saw.

Camilla: Fabric, yarn, my sewing and knitting machines.

Cara: Beads, copper wire, leather, fabric and fibers. Nothing beats a good pair of round nose pliers or wire cutters.

What is your favorite part of the creative process?
Michael: Making the pattern and prototype.

Camilla: I enjoy the whole step-by-step process, unlike Cara and Michael. They tend to get impatient and focus more on the finished product.

Cara: I love color and texture, so playing with different combinations of those. And seeing the finished product, especially if it turned out like I thought it would or different but better than I expected.

Least favorite part of the process?
Michael: Sanding.

Camilla: A failure. But everyone has them now and then.

Cara: Having to take it apart and start over if I goof or an idea didn't work.

What advice would you give to others getting started (related to crafting or selling crafts?)
Michael: Don't get discouraged. At times you need to refresh with new designs.

Camilla: If it appeals, try it. That's the only way to see if you will really like it.

Cara: Try a variety of crafts. Some you'll enjoy just for a few projects, but there will be some that you'll stick with forever. If you get frustrated, leave it for another day. Crafts are supposed to be fun, not another stress! Make what YOU like. We've found that our favorite pieces are the ones others gravitate towards, even if it wouldn't normally be their pick of style or color. And definitely get the best quality tools you can afford. It does make a difference.

Cowgirl & Flapper Apron Costumes!

Use your imagination to create a fabulous and easy costume - such as a 1920s flapper or a 21st-century cowgirl. Cowgirl Apron Costume

• Simplicity® apron pattern 3949, view C
• Denim; refer to pattern for exact yardage
• 1/2 yd Brown suedecloth fabric for vest
• 1¾ yd Fringe for vest
• 1/4 yd Plaid fabric for belt
• 7"x7" Gold felt remnant for belt buckle
• 2 Brass star buttons for belt buckle
• Scissors or rotary cutter & mat
• Basic sewing supplies
• Sewing machine
• Iron & ironing surface
• Pen or pencil
• Ruler

Directions:
Note: Vest & belt seam allowances are 1/2". See pattern instructions for apron seam allowance.
1. Sew apron following pattern instructions.
2. Cut out fabric for vest and belt following provided pattern.
3. For vest, fold top edge and side under 1/2". Press. Pin fringe to curved front edge and edge stitch fringe in place.
4. Lay wrong side of vest piece on top of right side of apron. Top edge and side edge should be even. Pin and edge stitch top edge and side edge of vest to apron.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for opposite side of vest.
6. Trim fringe at center front if desired.
7. For belt, fold top, bottom and sides back 1/2". Press. Place wrong side of belt to right side of apron at waist. Edge stitch around all sides.
8. Cut oval for belt buckle out of gold felt. Edge stitch oval to center of belt.
9. Hand sew buttons to belt buckle.

Flapper Apron Costume

• 1¼ yd Black fabric for apron
• 2½ yds Black fringe
• 1 Black boa
• 1½ yd 2" wide Velvet ribbon
• 2-3 strands Black & silver beads
• 1 spool Black nylon jewelry thread
• 1-2 spools Black beaded trim
• 1 spool 1" wide Sequin elastic trim
• Scissors or rotary cutter & mat
• Basic sewing supplies
• Sewing machine
• Iron and ironing surface
• Pen or pencil
• Ruler
• Fabr i-Tac® glue

Directions:
Note: Use 1/2" seam allowance for apron.
1. Cut out apron and ties following provided pattern.
2. For ties, fold each piece in half lengthwise. Stitch around one short edge and long edge. Leave one small edge open for turning.
3. Turn ties right side out and press. Set aside.
4. Make a 1/2" narrow hem at angled sides of apron. Press.
5. Make 1/2" narrow hem at top edge of apron. Press.
6. With raw edges even and right sides together, pin ties to side at top just below angled side. Baste in place.
7. Make a 1/2" narrow hem at sides.
8. Adjust hem length as desired. Cut any excess off length as desired and make a 1/2" narrow hem along
bottom edge.
9. Cut boa in half.
10. Place one end of boa at top edge corner. With boa on the wrong side of apron at top, stitch in place.
11. Repeat step 10 for opposite side.
12. Lay fringe out on front of apron at bottom. Trim fringe to fit width of apron. Create 3 rows of fringe,
overlapping slightly. Sew or glue in place.
13. Lay velvet ribbon along top edge of top piece of fringe. Trim ribbon to fit width of apron. Glue in place.
14. Make a flat bow about 5" wide and glue on top of velvet ribbon so that bow is slightly off center.
To make a flat bow, cut a piece of ribbon about 10". With right side down, fold edges toward center back and adjust so that the width is approx. 5". Glue ends in place. Cut a piece of ribbon approx. 4” and wrap it around the center. Glue ends in place at back.
15. Cut strands of black beaded trim in various lengths to create a long necklace look at front of apron.
Try 2-3 various lengths. String and add in the silver and black beads as desired.
16. Hand tack the beaded strands to the top edge of apron on both sides.
17. Cut a piece of elastic sequin trim long enough to cover the hand tacked beaded ends. Glue sequin
trim in place at both sides at top of apron.

And you can work together to choose which fish or other underwater life to pick! Now we just have to hope for a 'big kids' version :)

DIRECTIONS (click here for printable directions):

Standard card tables are 28" high, 34-35" wide; therefore, 72" felt -- 2-1/2 yds cut lengthwise -- should provide 2 panels that span the card table both ways. Cut the 2 panels, trimming the sides and bottom as necessary for a good fit.
On one side, cut a flap 16"W and 20"H. Over this, you will be bonding the large porthole and fish, etc., sealing off the flap cuts. When the table is completed, cut the flap again, through all thicknesses.
Using the photo as a guide, cut the pattern pieces and set aside. Most pieces are attached to the felt house with HeatnBond, following manufacturer's instructions. Begin with the bottom layer of each element -- ex.: large gray porthole, smaller black circle, black bolts, green seaweed, octopus, octopus cheeks, octopus mouth -- and build up one layer at a time, for a good bond. Note: when attaching seaweed with fish, etc., bond the bottom of the seaweed, leaving the tendrils free until fish are placed, so some appear to be intertwined. Elements such as the Wiggle Eyes, gems and pearls are attached last, using Fabri-Tac.
All the fish begin with either a basic circle or oval; simply add tail, fin and other details.
The treasure chest is made of 5 felt pieces. Attach the tan trunk base, the brown shape above it, then the tan lid. Attach the brown end pieces last. Glue gems and pearls.
Fish game on top: Paint two 18" dowels in coordinating colors and set aside. Knot the ends of two pieces of string and attach the knot to the top of the magnet with tacky glue. Cut 2 small felt circles and 2 worms. Cut a small "x" at the center of the felt circle and slide it over the unknotted end of the string. Settle it onto the magnet glue and glue the worm on top. When glue is dry, tie unknotted ends of the string to the dowel. Glue the knot to the dowel, and trim the string. Cut small fish, apply Heat ?n Bond and iron to another piece of felt; trim edges, leaving a margin of the second color felt. Glue on eyes, apply felt numbers on back and slide a paper clip on each fish's mouth.

FISHING GAME IDEAS:

Learning basic math & spelling skills: (a) take turns "catching" fish; add up the scores at the end. Highest score wins. (b) Catch 2 fish and add the numbers together. (c) Catch 2 fish and multiply the numbers. (d) Catch 2 fish and subtract the smaller number from the larger number. (e) Teach the concept of "0," which is tricky for most children. (f) Teach the concept of "odd" and "even" numbers. (g) Make each fish a different combination of colors and play a Memory Game, remembering what number is on the back of each fish. (h) Instead of numbers, make 26 fish and place letters on the back to teach the alphabet. (i) Place the letters that spell out the children's names on the back, and help them learn to spell their names.

DESIGN SUGGESTIONS FOR OTHER 2 SIDES:

Repeat one or both of the original 2 sides.
Cut another flap on the back side that looks like an underwater cave. Cut the flap into narrow strips so children can pretend they're entering through a "waterfall."
Cut out the side porthole window just inside the black line for a peep hole. Make one for each of the remaining sides.
Hang some fish on the underside of the card table. Suspend them on ribbons, fastened by Velcro dots.
Create some accessory pieces to play pirates or scuba diver.
To close up the corner gaps, cut small strips of felt (to tie) or small rectangles (to attach with Velcro, one to each side of the gap).
Attach pockets for holding the fish and fishing rod pieces.

Sunflower Pumpkin DIRECTIONS:

Lightly draw a circle on the side of the Fun-Kins carvable pumpkin, then draw 10 to 12 large primary petals around the circle.
Carve out primary petals. When done carving the first petals, carve out a smaller petal between each.
Dots in center part of sunflower are made with an electric drill. Adult supervision is necessary for this project.

No Sew Quilt & Blanket!

Do you love making no-sew blankets? So do we! We have two tutorials below, for a tied calico quilt, or a fleece blanket!

No Sew Calico Quilt
Supplies:
• 24 calico fat quarters
• 1 3⁄4 yds. calico for backing (42" x 60")
• 1 pkg. crib-size fusible batting (36" x 54")
• Scissors
• Ruler
• Yarn/darning needle
• Iron
• Chalk pencil or erasable marker

Directions (click here for a printable version):
1. Wash and dry calico fat quarters and backing.
2. Cut a 15" square from each fat quarter. From scraps, cut twenty-four
1⁄4" x 9"strips. Set aside.
3. Cut a 3" square from each corner of the 15 calico squares.
4. With wrong sides together, align edges of two squares. With chalk pencil or erasable
marker, draw a line 3" from edge along one side. Cut fringe (both squares at the same time)
about 1⁄4" wide, stopping cut at drawn line.
5. Tie top and bottom fringe together. When opened, squares should be joined by knotted
fringe. Repeat with remaining squares so you have 12 sections of 2 squares.
6. Create rows by tying 3 sections together. (Rows should be 6 blocks long.) Tie rows
together using same technique.
7. Layer backing (wrong side facing up), quilt batting and fringed top (right side up). Batting
edges will be 3" shorter than quilt top and backing. Following manufacturer’s instructions,
fuse quilt sandwich together.
8. Fringe outside edges of quilt through both layers. Tie together backing and fringed
quilt top.
9. Using yarn/darning needle and 1⁄4" strips, tie center of each square to secure quilt top,
batting and backing. Double knot.
10. Wash and dry quilt to fray fringe.

Fancy Fleece Blanket
Supplies:
1 yard Blue Fleece Fabric
1 yard Green Fleece Fabric
8 yards 15/16” White Grosgrain Ribbon
June Tailor® Fancy Fleece™ Ruler
Rotary Cutter
Rotary Cutting Mat

Directions: (click here for printable directions. Or click here for directions for the traditional tied fleece version!)
Cut both pieces of fleece to measure 35” x 54”. With wrong sides together, layer

the two pieces of fleece matching edges. Pin the two pieces of fleece together if
desired to keep them from moving while continuing to work on your blanket.
Beginning with the 35” blanket width, draw a line 3” up from edge. Aligning the
printed line of the “slit cuts” section of your Fancy Fleece™ Ruler with the 3” line
you drew, begin cutting slits 5” in from the outside edge through both layers of
fabric. Continue cutting the 1” long slits, 1” apart across width of blanket,
stopping 5” from opposite edge. You should have a total of 26 slits cut. You must
have an even number of slits cut.

Repeat for opposite width of blanket.

Draw a line 3” up from edge of 54” length of blanket. Aligning the printed line of
the “slit cuts” section of your Fancy Fleece™ Ruler with the 3” line you drew,
begin cutting slits 5 1/2” in from the outside edge through both layers of fabric.
Continue cutting the 1” long slits, 1” apart across width of blanket, stopping 5
1/2” from opposite edge. You should have a total of 44 slits cut. You must have an
even number of slits cut.

Repeat for opposite length of blanket.

Cut grosgrain ribbon into 2 pieces measuring 62” for the width of the blanket and 2
pieces measuring 82” for the length of the blanket.

Beginning at one corner, weave ribbon over and under slits making sure that ends
appear at the same side of the blanket. Repeat ribbon weaving for all sides of your
blanket, again making sure that all ends appear on the same side.

Tie ribbon ends into bows at each corner.

Fold blanket in half lengthwise. Place the straight edge adjacent to the wavy edge
portion of the Fancy Fleece™ Ruler, on the fold of your blanket. With the entire
wavy edge of the ruler appearing just inside the blanket edge, cut through all four
layers of fleece. Press ruler down firmly on your fabric to avoid movement. Lift
ruler and align with previously cut waves and continue cutting to the corner.

Repeat for opposite side of blanket.

Open blanket and fold in half widthwise. Repeat same process that was used to
wavy cut the width of your blanket to cut the lengths.

Remove any pins that were used to hold your blanket layers together.

Sewing Machine Tips & Techniques

What are your tried and true sewing tips to keep your sewing machine in working order? How do you care for your sewing supplies? Check out our tips below, and don't forget to replenish your supplies!

Machine, needle & thread savvy

To thread the needle, do not wet the end of the thread. This will cause it to expand. Instead, wet the eye of the needle & capillary action will help the thread go into the eye.
Universal needles work well on most woven & knit fabrics and cover most sewing situations.
Stretch needles work well on highly elastic knits like Lycra & synthetic non-wovens such as Ultrasuede®.
Use ballpoint needles for heavy knits, double knits & synthetic blend interlocks to help prevent runs & snags.
Topstitching needles have a larger eye for heavy, decorative threads.
Wedgepoint needles are for leather & vinyls.
Metafil/Metallica needles, size 80/12 HE, work well with metallic threads, helping prevent breakage of the delicate thread. Size 70/10HE makes smaller holes & works well on organza & fine silk fabrics.
Needle sizes range from 9(fine) to 18(coarse); the higher the number the thicker the needle. 80/12 on a needle package indicates both European & U.S. measurements; 80 is European and 12 is U.S. The finer & more delicate the fabric & thread and the closer the stitch length, the smaller the needle size should be.
Most sergers take standard, universal needles, but some require specific needles recommended by the manufacturer. Always check your manual.
Change the needle before starting new large projects to remind you to use the correct needle for your fabric & thread and avoid using damaged needles that may harm the machine & your fabric.
Old thread that has been stored on wood or foam spools should be thrown away. Chemicals in these spools weaken the thread, causing repeated breaks.
Use high quality, tightly wound thread that does not show fuzzy lint when held to the light. Modern sewing machines are highly computerized, and lint from cheaper thread will increase the need for repairs.
Purchase thread & needles that match your fabric & project.
Hand quilting thread is for hand sewing & not machine use.
Serger cone thread is so delicate it should only be used in a serger, where the multiple threads in the overlock stitch create strength.
Rayon thread is hand-washable and can be pressed with a warm iron on a synthetic setting but it is not a good choice for items that will be washed often or machine dried.
Polyester thread is the most versatile. It can be machine washed & dried or dry cleaned, is colorfast and has a slight amount of stretch.
Plug your machine into a power surge protector strip to protect your investment.
Keep your machine well-maintained and lint-free in all working areas. Have it professionally serviced annually.
Never sew over pins, which will damage the needle or the machine throat plate.

Five Questions for Deborah Norville

Deborah Norville is an author, an anchor on Inside Edition, a volunteer ... and a craft enthusiast with her own yarn line that you can find at Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Stores!

We have a few questions for Deborah, but we want to know: What craft question do you have for Deborah Norville? Let us know on our Facebook page!

1. What's your current craft project? (Or should we say projects?)
Doing a couple of things right now! I am just finishing a needlepoint pillow I designed as a thank you for some friends who invited us on a Nile River cruise. How do you thank anyone for THAT? I figured a beautiful pillow with cartouches of their names in hieroglyphs in luscious wools would be just the thing (and one CAN'T buy it!). It's finished and I can't wait to give it and see their reactions!

I am also finishing a beautiful baby blanket for my niece who is having her first child--in fact she's in labor as I write this! It will be my dad's first great-grandchild! It's a lovely pink and white confection in the new Chunky Sprinkles yarn called "In The Pink." It's super soft so the baby will love it and totally machine wash and dry so whatever gets on it, her mom won't have to worry about tossing it in the dryer.

My grandmother was always the one who knit baby things in our family -- and as she's passed on, I have designated myself the official "Norville family knitter!"

I am also doing a ripple crochet afghan to match my daughter's newly redecorated bedroom. It's in three shades of Deborah Norville Worsted. I already did afghans for my two older sons so it's my daughter's turn! When one of them opened the gift at Christmas, he was first silent and then said, "wow, this must have taken you forEVER!" I said it did take a while and I thought of you every stitch!

2. What's your advice for someone learning a new craft?
Take it slow and don't worry about mistakes. I find I have learned more from the 'boo boos' than from getting it right!

When you DO make a mistake - and you will - just unsew/unknit and put it aside until you calm down and then start again.

3. Who inspires you?
I would have to say my mother, who died when I was 20. She helped run the family business, raised four daughters, kept a lovely house - and still found time to sew for her girls and teach me to knit.

I wish she were alive to see how well her children --and grandkids -- have turned out!

4. Why are handmade objects important to you?
I think handmade objects appeal to me -- they reenforce the connection between individuals. One generally thinks of the recipient when one is making something ... And to me, there is no more special way to tell someone you care.

5. Which yarn in your line is your personal favorite?
That's like asking which child is your favorite! I love Chunky Sprinkles, one of the newest in the Chunky line. It's really fun to work with. Chunky is a great yarn because it works up so fast! I can't wait to use the new Serenity Chunky Glitter which has great lurex threads spun into the yarn. I think I will make some holiday things with that.

Fashion Jeweltones is another fave -- I have a gorgeous grey tone shawl which has the ever-so-subtle sequins on the yarn. I want to make a ruby colored shrug which I think would look amazing on television!

Fall Decor Fabulousness

Cooler temperatures are on the horizon, along with thoughts of pumpkins, falling leaves, and hot chocolate. Add some sparkle to your home with a twist on fall DIY ideas -- a Glittery Harvest Centerpiece, and Wire-wrapped Fall Candles!

Glittery Harvest Centerpiece
• Twig cornucopia & pumpkin
• Faux gourds & pumpkins
• Autumn berry garland
• Burlap garland
• Sage raffia
• Spray paint: gold, copper
• Glitter: gold, copper
• Glitter glue
• Tacky glue
• Wire cutters
• Blue painter’s tape
• Waxed paper (to catch excess glitter)

Directions (click for printable directions):
1. Apply painter’s tape to stems, or remove stems from faux gourds and pumpkins; spray gourds and pumpkins with gold and copper paint. When dry, remove painter’s tape or replace stems.

2. Wrap burlap garland around cornucopia and tie in a knot; trim ends. Apply glitter to the top and opening of the cornucopia by squeezing on tacky glue, then pouring glitter over the wet glue. Set aside until glue has dried; shake off excess glitter onto waxed paper, funnel back into container. Repeat as often as necessary to create a glittery crust. Further embellish the cornucopia with raffia and short lengths of berry garland, adding touches of glitter glue as desired.

3. Position twig pumpkin over waxed paper and squeeze tacky glue over the top and partially down the sides. Pour glitter over wet glue. Repeat as desired.

4. Tie raffia around the smaller gourds and secure with glitter glue. Embellish a few berry garland branches with glitter glue. Tuck into the arrangement or wrap around pumpkin stems. Incorporate glitter glue into the cornucopia and twig pumpkin to blend the golds and coppers, to fill in bare spots and to add more sparkle as desired.

• 2" Pillar candles: brown, cream, red
• 12 gauge Aluminum floral wire: gold, brown
• Round-nose pliers
• Needle-nose pliers
• Wire cutters
• Masking tape

Directions (click for printable version):
Tip: Cover the jaws of the pliers with masking tape to protect the coating on the wire. This tape will only help to protect the surface. Be extra careful to avoid scratching the coating off the wire.

1. Take end of the wire from spool and wrap wire around candle. Spiral the wire around candle in a varied pattern to add interest, like vines growing around the candle. Leave 2" extra length at both ends and cut off any excess. Remove wire from the candle.

2. Bend both wire ends into a leaf shape. Use the provided template as a guide or create your own leaf pattern.

3. Cut a piece of wire 4" long and bend one end into a leaf shape. Attach the leaf to the vine base by wrapping the straight end around the wire vine. Start at the base of the leaf you are attaching and wrap down. Once the leaf is secure, cut off any excess wire. If the leaf is sliding on the vine, crimp the wrapped part tightly with pliers. Be careful not to scratch the wire.

4. Repeat step 3 to add the desired amount of leaves up and down the vine base.

5. To add swirls to the vine base between the leaves, cut a piece of wire 4" long. Create a loop at one end with needle-nose pliers. From the loop, use your fingers to create a spiral shape. Connect the spiral to the vine base in the same way the leaves were added, by wrapping the end of the wire to the vine and cutting off any excess.

6. Place the candle back into the middle of the vine. If the vine seems loose after adding the leaves, take the candle out and pull the ends of the vine to create a tighter loop. Slide the candle back into the center.

1/3 yd print fabric: car body
12" square print fabric: wheels
7" square print fabric: windows

1/2 yd Warm & Natural® batting
7"x7" HeatnBond® Lite fusible interfacing

Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS: Use 1/4" seam allowance. Lights, door handles & wheels are made with yo-yo circles.

To craft yo-yos, sew a running stitch around edge of circle & pull thread tightly to center. Secure thread.

1. Enlarge patterns (find printable pattern here)

2. From car print fabric, cut car front and back and a strip 3"x31".

3. Baste batting to wrong sides 1/4" from edges.

4. Fuse HeatnBond® Lite to wrong side of fabric for windows. Cut out windows and fuse to car sides.

5. Use a tight zigzag stitch to sew around all windows.

6. Use disappearing marker to draw steering wheel and door line, then zigzag over markings.

7. Fold ends of 31" piece under 1/4".

8. Beginning at the bottom center of the car, sew long strip around car, clipping curves to basting stitches.

Folded ends will meet at starting point -- leave open for turning and stuffing. Repeat with other side.

9. Firmly stuff car.

10. To provide car stability, cut two 2 1/2"x 5 1/2" pieces of stiff cardboard. Carefully slide cardboard into opening. Pieces may need to be shortened according to car dimensions. Slip stitch opening closed.

11. For wheels, cut four 5" circles from fabric, four 2 1/2" circles from cardboard and four 4" circles from batting. Sew a running stitch around out side edge of circle, place the batting then the cardboard in center of circle and pull thread tightly to center. Secure thread.

12. Cut four 2" circles from the solid hubcap fabric, pull stitching and stuff lightly before securing closed. Flatten yo-yos. Glue to wheels over openings. Glue wheels to car.

13. Use lightly stuffed and flattened 1 1/2" circle yo-yos for head lights, 1 1/2" circle tail lights and door handles. Glue in place.

14. For the bumpers, cut two 2"x6" strips of fabric, sew long sides together, leaving an opening in the center for turning and stuffing. Press seam open & refold so seam is in the middle. Sew ends closed. Trim corners, turn. Lightly stuff bumpers and sew opening closed. Glue in place on car.

15. Pin yo-yos to car while glue dries. Allow glue to dry thoroughly.

Sewing is Sharing: National Sewing Month

Let's kick things off with a free tutorial with lots (and lots) of buttons. Oh, and fleece, too!

What are your tips for the perfect pillow?

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

1/2 yd Blizzard fleece solid
12" square pillow form
28 buttons: 7/8 to 1" in diameter
Basic sewing supplies
Water-erasable marker
Fray Check™ liquid seam sealant
mm twin needle
2 spools thread
Sewing machine
Rotary cutter, ruler & mat

DIRECTIONS: RS = Right side(s) WS = Wrong side(s)
1. Cut two 18" squares of fleece.

2. Center, measure & mark a 12" square on the RS of 1 fleece piece.

3. Draw parallel lines within the square with the erasable marker to use as guides.

4. Set the machine to a straight stitch with the needle in the center position. Place the twin needle in the machine & thread it with the two spools. Set the stitch length a bit longer than normal, but not fully basting.

5. Determine the design and sew the straight lines. If sewing the scallop stitch, reduce stitch width so the needle does not swing & hit the foot. Turn the wheel & hand walk through the stitch before sewing to check that it does not hit the foot.

6. When center design is complete, sew parallel lines from the square out to the edge all around for a ribbing edge effect. Complete the design by sewing the original square. At the beginning and end of the seams, pull the threads to the back and tie knots, rather than back stitching.

7. On the WS of the stitched top, put seam sealant on the bobbin thread of each ribbing line 1" from the edge to the edge. Allow to dry.

8. Stack plain fleece square face down and stitched square face up. Pin in the center. Use the rotary cutter to trim around all sides for a consistent edge width and to cleanly cut the edge.

9. Arrange buttons around the ribbing section and sew in place. Before sewing on the last couple of buttons, slip in the pillow form, then sew the remaining buttons.

SUPPLIES & TOOLS FOR EACH PUPPET: (Click here for printable directions)
• 2 felt squares for body
• Assorted felt squares for wings, legs & embellishments
• 1 pom pom for nose
• Wiggle eyes
• 1 chenille stem
• Glitter glue
• Tacky glue
To use our patterns, enlarge approximately 250%. See actual sizes noted on patterns. Percentage may vary
depending on your printout. For Ladybug wings, cut 2 circles, 61⁄4" diameter.

DIRECTIONS:
1. Cut 2 puppet bodies from felt. Glue together around outer edge, leaving bottom open. Allow to dry.
2. Using the pattern pieces included, cut out coordinating felt and embellish body with felt stripes, legs and
wings as shown. Glue to body.
3. Glue nose & eyes in place.
4. Embellish with glitter glue as desired.
5. For antennae, bend chenille stem in half forming a "V". Curl each end and glue to back of head.

What craft do you do and which do you enjoy most?
My favorite craft is creating beaded jewelry. I currently enjoy making wire wrapped jewelry the most, and often add swarovski crystal beads to give it that extra sparkle!

How did you get started crafting?
I always loved crafts. I remember making things as a child. I had a weaving loom, and I made potholders, made keychains, did paint by number kits, sewed pillows, and made a rug pillow. I took a art and ceramics classes in school, and really liked it. I loved drawing, and would draw for hours.

Who taught you your crafting skills?
One of my friends made beautiful beaded jewelry. My friend explained to me briefly the basics of jewelry making. After that, I bought some craft books, and taught myself the rest.

Have you studied it or taken classes?
I mostly learned from books and magazines. I also remember watching tutorials online.

It just takes practice, and you tend to get better with time. It also takes a lot of patience, and creativity. I love to create! I usually sit for hours at my dining room table with all of my beads spread out in front of me, and I create many different items. When I am finished, I feel good and feel a sense of accomplishment.

What is your favorite part of the creative process?
One of my favorite parts of the creative process is when I get a good idea about making something, and it comes out even better than I imagined. My most favorite part is when someone tells me how much they like something that I made. It is very rewarding!

And your least favorite part of the creative process?
Sometimes I think that I spend too much time on my jewelry business, and it takes a lot of time away from spending time with my family. They are very understanding, but I sometimes find that there aren't enough hours in the day!

How would you describe your style?
I love animals, children, the beach, color and sparkle, so most of my pieces fit into one of those catagories. I try to create pretty fun jewelry that is affordable, and can be worn casually, or for a night out.

My attitude in life is to do good things for others. Trust God. I love the quote: "Live well, laugh often, love much." Hopefully my jewelry reflects that.

SUPPLIES & TOOLS: (printable directions here)

8 oz Plaid Mod Podge matte finish
Magnetic board
Love tags Soft Spoken
Neapolitan floral stickers
Scrapbook paper, 3 sheets each: (suggested: Peppermint Rain Drops, Green Croc)
2 yds trim: apple green
Sponge brush
Masking tape
Newspaper
Hot glue gun, glue sticks
Scissors
Permanent marker
Ruler

DIRECTIONS

Mark out seven columns on the magnetic board with permanent marker. Let dry
Use newspaper and masking tape to cover front of calendar.
Cut Peppermint Rain Drops & Green Croc papers into pieces wide enough to cover front and sides of frame.
Starting with Green Croc paper, use sponge brush to apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to back of 1 piece & place on the frame, smoothing around curves and edges by hand.
Continue with Peppermint Rain Drops, overlapping each piece until frame is covered. Allow to dry.
Seal frame with a coat of Mod Podge. Allow to dry.
Remove tape and paper.
Hot glue trim to inside edge of frame.
Embellish frame with stickers and tags or cut out pictures and apply with Mod Podge.
Cover magnets with floral stickers or cut out pictures and apply with Mod Podge.

1. Preheat Chocolate Pro™ Melting Pot on melt setting for 5 minutes.

3. Place a cookie stick into the top of a marshmallow, dip into the melted candy mixture then quickly tap the marshmallow into the crushed graham crackers.
4. Place on waxed paper to cool.

5/8 yd. each of 6 Coordinating fabrics for wings
1/3 yd. Fabric for body
1-3/4" yds. Fabric for quilt backing
45"x60" Batting
12" square batting scrap for antenna pieces
1 yd. HeatnBond
Sewing machine
Basic sewing supplies

SIZE: Finished size is approximately 40"x55"
NOTES: Add 1/4" cutting lines to all pattern pieces. 1/4" seam allowance used throughout.
TIP: We quilted along each wing segment and body seam line. We also quilted segments on the butterfly body. Circle pieces were zig-zag quilted.

DIRECTIONS:

Enlarge wing/body pattern 200%. Enlarge the enlargement 400%.
For backing: Fold fabric in half cut edge to cut edge. Place body edge of pattern on fold. Cut out backing adding 1/4" seam allowance along all outside edges. Set aside.
Cut pattern pieces along printed lines on pattern. Choosing fabrics as desired for wing placement and with right sides together, cut out wing pieces remembering to add 1/4" seam allowances along all edges. Straight-of-grain markings have been added to the pattern pieces, however, strict adherence is not necessary. Transfer registration markings and pattern points to all fabric pieces.
Matching registration markings and right sides together, sew pieces together easing curves as necessary. Make two wings.
Fold body fabric cut edge to cut edge. Cut one body laying fold line on folded fabric edge. Transfer registration markings. Stitch body to right side of each wing easing fullness if necessary.
Following HeatnBond directions, trace circle patterns, adhere adhesive, cut out and fuse circle pieces to wings.
Cut two pairs of antenna pieces out of fabric and two out of batting scrap. With right sides together, stitch two fabric pieces and batting leaving end open for turning. Make two. With edges together, baste antenna to head.
Make quilt "sandwich" by layering top and backing right sides together and batting behind backing. Pin and stitch together leaving opening for turning. Turn and slip stitch opening.
Quilt as desired.

How did you start crafting?
I am an architect with passion for design. I started drawing my own illustrations and drafts and then I started to create them digitally. I have always liked the crafts and decided I could make some additional income out of it so I started to create my own store step-by-step, linking of the pieces together while designing different things. I started with drawings, jumped into jewelry, then toys, then illustrations and now I design pretty much everything.

Who taught you how to craft? Or did you teach yourself?
I am a self taught artist. Everything I've done I've learned on my own -- from my basic drawing to my website design skills, everything is self taught.

Where do you find your inspiration?
I find my inspiration in cuteness; I like to design things that are super cute, unique, things you cannot find anywhere else. I love animals, dolls, nature and bright colors and I try to include my personality on the designs.

Who inspires you?
My family and my husband are the source of my inspiration. All the blessings I've received are part of it as well, I am a really lucky person and I inspire myself on that idea.

What are some of your favorite tools or materials?
Most of the time I use cardboard, felt, wood, cotton lace and textures I can find usable for my designs. I also try to use recyclable biodegradable materials.

What is your favorite part of the creative process?
My favorite part of the creating process is drawing the ideas in my head -- imagining things and making them real is what excites me the most.

... and your least favorite part?
It could be the finishing of the pieces. I am a perfectionist and it takes a long time for me to be happy with what I do. I like my customers to be 100% satisfied with my art and that requires me to be 100% happy with what I do.

What advice would you give to others getting started?

Start with the basics. Stick to what you do best and learn from the people who know what you want to
accomplish. There is nothing wrong with asking for help or advice if you need it!

Time management and planning are keys for success! Don't try to do things just because other people are doing it, your business may not need what everybody needs and you may learn how to develop your
own strategy in the long term.

The most important thing: Track, analyze and refine your strategy all the way! That is the only way to
learn what is good and what is wrong. If you don't know that you have more visitors, how do you know you need more products? Only data can give you that to develop a successful store!

Double Wrap Bracelet Tutorial

Double Wrap Bracelet from Cousin Materials:

Clasp (Button or Bead)
Beading Needle (needs to pass through bead twice)
Scissors

Instructions:
Determine the bracelet length. To make a single wrap bracelet, triple the number of your wrist
measurement (7” = 21”). To make a double wrap bracelet, multiply seven times your wrist measurement
(7” = 49”). This allows for extra cord to make the knots at the beginning and end of the bracelet.

Cut a 10’ to 12’ piece of thread and thread the needle. Knot the ends.
Fold the length of leather cord in half.
Hold the knotted end of the thread with the fold of leather and tie an overhand knot. *The loop of the
leather needs to be large enough to fit the button/bead through it.
Use a clip to hold the knotted end of the bracelet onto a board/work surface. Use additional clips to
hold the leather cord down onto other end of the board/work surface.
Start threading in a figure eight stitch. Do not add any beads to the bracelet yet. Wrap the thread
over the right strand to the outside, then under the right, over the left to the outside, under the left
and then over the right. Repeat 6 times. Pull the thread tight against the leather.
Start adding beads into the weaving. Pass the thread under the left leather cord and add a bead.
Hold the bead in place between the leather cords. After threading on the bead, bring the thread
over the right and back under the right, through the bead again and over the left. Repeat for each
bead.
Finish the bracelet the same way it was started by weaving the figure eight stitch without beads 6
times.
Then tie a knot with the leather and thread.
Tie the button/bead in a knot with the leather. Use a drop of glue to secure the thread and leather.
Trim the excess pieces.

*There are many ways to finish off the bracelet end, choose the look that expresses you!

1. Cut (2) 16” lengths of gunmetal twist chain and (1) 16” length of gunmetal link chain.

It's almost midsummer -- the kids have exhausted their summer to-do list, and everyone is getting a bit stir crazy.

Maybe it's time for some Busy Kids Learning.

Stacked Chain Earrings

Instructions:
1. Cut (10) lengths of gunmetal chain and (6) lengths of white chain into random lengths. The lengths in the
sample earrings vary from 1” to 2”.
2. Use 4mm jump rings to gather the chains into two groups. Each group should have 5 gunmetal chains and 3 white chains alternating.
3. Use a 6mm jump ring to gather the two charms and then the chain jump ring. Repeat for the matching earring.
4. Connect the earring wires to the clusters using 4mm jump rings.

How do you get inspiration for a new project? Do you walk the aisles of your favorite craft store? Or browse blogs? Or comb through the boards on Pinterest?

Sometimes, a project will jump out at me, and I have to try it (right that second). For example: weaving.

Diane Gilleland's post on Craftstylish for weaving on a cardboard loom is straight-forward -- all you need is some yarn, scissors, a ruler, and cardboard. I tried it with Sensations Angel Hair (which is super soft), and some card stock I had.

Doggone Craft Collage

Tomorrow, June 24 is Take Your Dog to Work Day! Every year, pet lovers promote pet adoption by bringing their four-legged friends in to the office.

We know not all of you will be lucky enough to bring your pets to the office. But you can celebrate your pet everyday with a personalized "I Love My Dog" collage that you can frame, and display on your desk, or hang on your corkboard! (And custom framing orders are 60% off through 6/25!).

Here are our suggestions, below, but feel free to make your crafty collage fit your dog (or cat's!) personality.

Supplies:

Jo-Ann Craft Essentials™ Card Embellishment “I Love My Dog”
Jo-Ann Scrap Essentials™, Silver Mini Brads
Jo-Ann Scrap Essentials™, Double-Sided Alphabet Charms
12 x 12 Dark green cardstock
12 x 12 Purple cardstock

Directions:

Use the dark green 12" x 12" cardstock as your background.
Use the purple cardstock to create photo mats for your photos, leaving a 1/4" border around your photos. For the double photo mat, leave a 1-3/4" space between the two photos for your embellishment.
Tear a 2" x 12" strip of the purple cardstock. Place this on the bottom portion of your page. This will create the background for your title strip.
Take your “I Love My Dog” embellishments and place the paw stamp and bone square on both ends of the title strip, slightly askew. Place the “I Love My dog” stamp on your double photo mat in the space you left in-between the two photographs.
Use the double-sided alphabet charm letters to create your title. Attach the charms to your title strip using silver mini-brads.
Finish embellishing your page with journaling.

It's Monday morning, and there's so much to do, like tell you about the Father's Day Make It-Take It on Saturday, June 18. Oh, and there's the Firefly Frenzy, going on now through June 18, including 60% off Waverly 54" fabric and trim (the lowest prices of the season!).

But before getting too excited, we wanted to take a moment to say thank you, and share a free tutorial on how you can spread the word, too!

How do you say thank you to the people you care about?

Cut Work Felt Thank You Card
SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

Red two-sided mulberry paper
Envelope
White stiffened glitter felt
Red ribbon
White cardstock
Red cardstock
Utility knife
Self-healing mat
Scissors
Red ink pen or computer
Hole punch
Circle punches
Glue stick
Paper trimmer
Adhesive dots

DIRECTIONS:

Cut the felt to fit the card. Draw a simple picture on the wrong side of the felt.
Cut the outlines with the utility knife on a protected surface.
Glue the felt to the card. Cut additional details like leaf veins, wing and the eye. Glue in place.
Print or computer-generate "Thanks" in red ink. Cut into a circle shape and mat with red paper. Punch two holes at the top of the circles. Thread ribbon through the holes and tie a bow. Attach circle to the card with adhesive dots.

We Love Versatility: Beach Mat & Chair Pad in One

Think back to those wintertime daydreams of fun in the sun. Remember? While making all of my crafting to-do lists, I thought this would be a great addition: a reversible beach mat & chair pad. (Two crafts in one? Brilliant!)

Check out the directions, below, and don't forget to let us know how you put your own spin on this craft in the comments!

SUPPLIES & TOOLS: (approx. 3 hours)

1-3/4 yds 54" home decor Fabric A
1-3/4 yds 54" home decor Fabric B
1-3/4 yds 1/2" polyester Batting
2-1/2 yds ribbon
Fiberfill
Sewing machine
Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS: Seam allowance is 1/2" . RS= Right Sides

Cut 22"x61" from Fabric A.
Cut 22"x61" from Fabric B.
Cut 22"x61" from Batting.
Layer fabric, RS together, with batting on top.
Stitch around all edges, leaving a 6" opening at the top for turning.
Turn right side out; press. Topstitch opening closed.
For seat fold line, stitch a line across the pad 27" from the top.
Cut two 12"x22" pieces from Fabric A and two 12"x22" pieces from Fabric B for neck rest pillow.
Stitch each fabric, RS together, leaving 4" opening for turning on 1 long side. Turn, press and slip stitch closed.
Stack rectangles on each other. Stitch a 11/2" flange; leave 4" opening for stuffing. Stuff; stitch opening closed.

Waverly Sun 'N Shade Outdoor Cavas Fabrics

To attach the neck rest pillow to the mat, insert the top of the mat between the flanges of one long side of the pillow. Sew close to flange stitching.
Cut four 22" lengths ribbon. Sew one piece to each side edge of mat 8" from top. Fold remaining ribbons in half; stitch to edge of mat at chair seat seam.

The Center of Attention

It's (finally) June! Graduations, Father's Day, weddings, and summertime cookouts are filling weekend schedules.

If you want to add a little personal touch to those tabletops this summer, check out this easy craft project for a Lacy Vase Centerpiece.

Tip: This is also fun to do in a group! Grab some friends, and get started!

Supplies & Tools:
1 Glass vase
1 pkg paper lace ribbon, 4" wide
1 pkg satin sash ribbon, 4" wide
Tape measure
Scissors
Glue gun & glue sticks
Flowers

DIRECTIONS:
1. Measure the circumference of vase. Cut paper lace ribbon to fit. Set aside.
2. Cut satin sash ribbon to above measurement plus 1/2".
3. Place small drops of glue to the ends of the satin sash ribbon. Wrap vase and hold in place until dry.
4. Wrap paper lace ribbon over the satin ribbon. Glue in place.
5. Add water and arrange flowers in vase.

...and that's it! Experiment with ribbons and flower colors, and find what works for you!

Princess Tiara

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
• Cricut items:
Personal Electronic Cutter Cartridges:
o Happily Ever After

• Cuttlebug items:
o Die Cutter and Embosser
o Olivia alphabet dies
o 2"x2" dies: Spring Floral, Stamps
• Cardstock: light pink, pink, dark pink, light green, light blue
• Rhinestones: various sizes and colors
• Scotch Quick-Dry Tacky Adhesive

DIRECTIONS:
1. Using Cricut machine, Happily Ever After cartridge, and light pink cardstock, press Icon feature and cut one 6-1/2" to cut tiara.

2. Using Walk in My Garden cartridge and dark pink cardstock, press Border feature and cut one 2-1/4" . Using pink cardstock, cut three 1-3/4" . Using light green cardstock, press Shift and cut four 3/4" . Adhere flower border and flowers to tiara. Adhere leaves to light blue cardstock and cut out. Adhere leaves next to flowers.

3. Using Cuttlebug machine and Stamp dies, cut out two oval stamps: one from pink cardstock and one from dark pink cardstock. Adhere pink outer oval and dark pink inner oval to top of tiara.

4. Using Cuttlebug machine and Olivia alphabet dies, cut out desired letter from green cardstock and adhere to layered pink ovals.

5. Using Cuttlebug machine and Spring Floral die, cut out three flowers from dark pink cardstock. Adhere flowers to top of tiara.

6. Embellish tiara with rhinestones.

7. Cut two strips of 1-1/2"x9" light pink cardstock. Adhere one strip on back of each side of tiara. Cut one 3/4" slit on each end of strip -- one side starting at the top, the other side starting at the bottom -- at desired length to fasten ends together.

How to Bling in the New Year!

Looking to add sparkle to your New Year's Eve outfit? Have we got the projects for you!

We loved the ideas style expert Bobbie Thomas provided for adding "glimmer, shimmer and shine" to your holiday wardrobe on a her recent MSNBC segment, Bobbie's Style Buzz. Bobbie encouraged viewers to "buy it or DIY it"!

One of the do-it-yourself projects Bobbie zipped through involved adding glitter and/or sequins to a pair of pumps.

Jo-Ann has a few more project ideas for giving your twinkle toes a glitzy glamorous make-over too. All you need are a pair of shoes, a couple common household items and a few supplies from your local Jo-Ann store.

The first how-to project is a variation of Bobbie's glittery upcycling of a pair of high heels using Tulip® Fashion Glitter Bond™, an adhesive product made specifically to bond glitter permanently to a variety of fabric surfaces.

Twinkle Toes Pumps
Skill Level 1: No experience necessary
Crafting Time: Approximately 1 hour

Supplies & Tools

Pair of shoes
Tulip® Fashion Glitter™
Tulip® Fashion Glitter Bond™
Paintbrush or makeup sponge
Paper towels
Foil
Newspaper

Directions

Cover your work surface with newspaper. Place a paper towel down on top of the newspaper and set the shoes on the prepared surface.
Squeeze Tulip® Fashion Glitter Bond™ onto foil. Working in small sections at a time, use paintbrush, makeup sponge or the sponge applicators that come with the Tulip® Fashion Glitter Bond™ to apply the adhesive to the shoe's surface.
Immediately sprinkle with Tulip® Fashion Glitter™ onto adhesive and press with finger to set. Shake any excess glitter from shoe onto a paper towel and pour it back into glitter bottle for reuse. Repeat the process, covering the entire shoe or as desired. Allow shoes to dry completely.
Use a paintbrush or sponge to gently coat shoes with Tulip® Fashion Glitter Bond™ to seal. Allow to dry.

If you prefer ritzy to glitzy, these classic black accessories with red accents will have you ringing in the new year in high style.

Ritzy Red & Black Accessories
Skill Level 1: No experience necessary
Crafting Time: Approximately 1 hour

Supplies & Tools

Item to be embellished: shoes, head band & barrette
1 strand red round plastic rhinestone trim, 3/16" wide
1 strand white round plastic rhinestone trim, 3/16" wide
1 strand black square metal rhinestone trim, 5/32" wide
Rose lace berry trim, 2-1⁄2" wide
Scissors
Clear drying all-purpose craft glue
Cloth measuring tape
String
Transparent tape

Directions

Measuring trim — For smaller items wrap or place string or cloth measuring tape on each area you want to cover. Measure the string to determine yardage.

SHOES:

Cut two roses from trim, glue in place. Let dry.
Refer to photo. Glue beginning of rhinestone trim to top inside of heel. Apply glue to heel and wrap on trim, gluing as you go downward. Glue end of trim on the inside of the heel. Trim excess.

HEADBAND: Measure length of headband and cut rose trim to match. Glue in place, let dry.

BARRETTE: Measure width of barrette and glue in place. Tape to hold embellishments in place, if necessary, until dry. Remove tape.

Staying home on New Years Eve doesn't have to be bland. If you're hosting a bash instead of stepping out on the town, you can still dress up yourself and your home for the first big event of the new year. Trim votives, candle holders and even champagne flutes with a little bling.

Bejeweled Accessories
Skill Level 1: No experience necessary
Crafting Time: Approximately 1 hour

Supplies & Tools

1 strand white round plastic rhinestone trim, 3/16" wide
1 strand blue round plastic rhinestone trim, 3/16" wide
Scissors
Clear drying all-purpose craft glue
Cloth measuring tape
String
Transparent tape
Items to be embellished: shoes, headband, votive candle, holders and glasses.

Directions

Measuring trim — For smaller items wrap or place string or cloth measuring tape on each area you want to embellish. Remove and measure the string to determine yardage.

SHOES:

Apply beads of glue across the band of the shoe. Press and hold trim in place to set. Trim excess. Continue until band is covered.
Measure and glue one strand of rhinestones up the heel. Since the band is curved you may need to use shorter pieces of trim in to fill the space in some areas.

HEADBAND:

Apply beads of glue across the length of the headband. Press trim in place and hold to set. Trim excess.
Continue until headband is covered.You may place a contrasting color on both outside edges for a hint of color.

VOTIVE CANDLE:

Apply glue and wrap several layers of trim around the base of the candle.
Cut individual gems off the trim and press into the side of the candle in a random pattern.

CANDLE HOLDERS AND CHAMPAGNE GLASSES:

Position rhinestone trim, let the design elements of each piece be your guide.
Apply beads of glue and gently wrap trim around the glass. Tape in place until dry if necessary.

How to Make It Festive

Making a festive apron or Christmas card, doesn't have to take a lot of time, as demonstrated this past Saturday in Jo-Ann stores across the country.

In about 30 minutes, you can create a "Happy Holidays" apron idea for cookie baking or holiday feast making. In less than 30 minutes, you can create a handmade Christmas card for family or friends using pretty papers from Die Cuts with a View and a cute squeeze punch from our friends at Fiskars.

For those who couldn't make it out or don't have a large Jo-Ann store nearby that has the space to host classes and demos, we have the step-by-step instructions available for you below.

Happy Holiday Apron
Skill Level 1: No experience necessary
Crafting Time: Approx. 30 minutes

Supplies & Tools

Marvy Uchida Decofabric Markers
Colors used: black, red, green, blue, glitter gold
Ready-made canvas apron
Tracing Paper
Iron, ironing board & pressing cloth or towel
Template

Instructions

Print template and enlarge or shrink the design to fit apron.
Trace the pattern onto the apron using the tracing paper.
Color in the hook caps with glitter gold. Color the ornaments on the lower right red, upper right green and the small ornament blue. For the ornament on the lower left, color it with glitter gold. Then add a little green to the base of the cap. Blend the green color into the gold ornament using the glitter gold marker. Let it completely dry.
Use the black to outline the ornaments and the frame, and then use it to write "happy holidays!" at the bottom. Let this dry.
Set iron to the temperature recommended for the canvas apron. Place towel on top of artwork. The towel is used to keep the fabric paint from burning or sticking to the iron. Iron the artwork for 5 minutes to heat set.

Merry Christmas Holiday Card
Skill Level 1: No experience necessary
Crafting Time: Less than 30 minutes

Supplies & Tools

Die Cuts with a View Christmas Stack
Fiskars "Under the Tree"
Large Easy Squeeze Punch
Foam square adhesives
or other adhesives
Paper trimmer

Finished Card Dimensions: 4-1/4"x 6" card

Instructions

Trim red paper to 8-1/2"x12". Fold into quarters to make a 4-1/4"x6" card.
Cut a 3-3/4"x5-1/2" rectangle from light green Christmas paper. Punch three "gifts" horizontally on one long edge (as sample pictured).
TIP: Find the center of the 5-1/2" rectangle and punch the center "gift" first.
Adhere the light green paper to the front of the red card.
Trim a 1-1/2"x5-1/2" strip of plaid paper and attach it to the top of card, as shown.
Cut a strip of words from patterned paper and adhere it below the plaid strip on the card.
Hand-trim a "Merry Christmas" square (or other sentiment from the paper) and adhere it to the top center of the card using foam square adhesive.
