Rachel Faucett on Creativity

From whimsical play projects for kids to DIY upcycling, Rachel Faucett is ready for any craft project. She is a designer for kids, a mom to five of her own, and the author behind the awesome DIY craft blog Handmade Charlotte. As part of our Creativity Made Simple campaign, Rachel took time to talk with us about her love of crafting.

Creativity Made Simple is all about finding the time do what you love even when life is busy. Have your own question for Rachel? Share in the comments below, and she will select five to answer.

Check out her amazing Chalkboard Mat tutorial, too!

1. How do you make time to craft?
Fortunately for me, crafting is my full time job. I love it! My mother is an amazing knitter, grandma always had her sewing machine running, and my aunt is a world renowned basket weaver. Crafting runs through my veins.

2. Who/what was your influence to craft?
My mother was always making something. She was up-cycling before it was even a word! The gigantic jewelry that I'm always wearing- my mother made it. The massive striped candles in my home….handmade by my mom. She was and still is a major influence in my life. We hit a lot of craft fairs together and we make jewelry quite often.

3. Name a crafting item you can't live without.
If I were stranded on an island ….I would insist on massive quantities of craft supplies!:) You'll always find FolkArt's Gun Metal Gray and FolkArt Cerulean Blue in my bag along with a cutting mat and Red Heart yarn. I'm actually a craft supply junkie. I'm completely obsessed with new supplies.

4. Someone says, "I'm not creative." How do you respond?
First of all, it makes me sad! I'm actually not sure what that even means. Everyone on earth is born with a unique twist of awesomeness. You don't have to paint the Mona Lisa to be considered creative. Creativity bubbles up in all aspects of everyone's life.
