Trick or Treat? It's in the Bag!

You've got the costumes ready. Perky pumpkins, spooky spider webs and a host of devilish decorations are darkening your doorstep, windows and walls. Two tons of candy are stashed near the front door awaiting the flurry of Trick-or-Treaters. Then, it hits you—your own little princess or pirate doesn't have a Halloween bag to tote their booty home in!

Jo-Ann is here to help with this Not So Tricky Treat Bag that can be made in just a couple hours (with drying time). Use the products listed below and add items from your supplies stash.

SUPPLIES & TOOLS
  • Tulip® Slick 3D Fashion Paint™:
    Orange, Lectric Lime, Black
  • Aleene's® Fabric Fusion™ Permanent Adhesive
  • Favorite Findings™ Buttons:
1 pkg Kiwi, 4 pkgs Orange Burst
  • Canvas tote
  • Cardboard: cut to fit inside tote
  • Paper towels
  • Gray chalk pencil (optional)

DIRECTIONS

  1. Insert cardboard into tote to prevent paint seepage to other side.
  2. Position Favorite Findings™ buttons on bag in pumpkin and stem design – 11 Kiwi buttons form the stem and 50 Orange Burst buttons form the bottom of the pumpkin.
  3. Lift each button, one at a time; squeeze Fabric Fusion™ on the back & press in place. Allow to dry completely.
  4. Start flow of Orange Slick 3D Fashion Paint™ on a paper towel. Using even pressure on bottle for a smooth line, outline the pumpkin.
  5. Use Lectric Lime to outline stem, create vines & the leaves extending from the stem and bottom of pumpkin.
  6. Use Black Slick 3D Fashion Paint™ to write a word or phrase above the pumpkin. If writing freehand with paint is difficult, use a gray chalk pencil to write the wording, then trace over it with paint.
  7. Allow project to dry completely.

This project features a pumpkin design, but you can use this technique to create a variety of simple Halloween shapes.

Create a candy corn design with yellow, orange and white buttons filling a painted triangle. Summon a ghostly design using mostly white with a few black buttons for eyes and a mount. Or make a basic bat shape filled with black buttons; swap out a pair of buttons for wiggle eyes for a fun touch.

Jo-Ann Project: T-Shirt Tote BagAn alternative to a ready-made canvas bag is to recycle or pick up an inexpensive T-shirt to create a T-Shirt Tote Bag with some quick and simple sewing. Take advantage of discounted Halloween-themed iron-ons and appliques or use fabric paint to free-hand an appropriate holiday design. Craft a ghastly bag for your little ghoul from a white t-shirt "stained" a fabric paint, such as Simply Spray Soft Fabric Paint, in a blood spatter or blood soaked pattern.
